KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 3 — Besides Yes 5G and U Mobile, TM is also offering unlimited 5G wireless broadband via its Uni5G Air service. While it isn’t officially announced, it appears that the Uni5G Air service has been offered as early as May this year based on an FAQ spotted online.
To recap, Unifi Air is essentially TM’s wireless broadband service which is aimed at users without fibre coverage. At the moment, the Unifi Air 4G offering costs RM79/month for unlimited 4G with speeds of up to 20Mbps. The 4G router is offered for free on a 24-month contract.
If you want 5G broadband for your home, Uni5G Air offers Unlimited 5G wireless broadband for RM149/month. Similar to the Yes “Wireless Fibre” 5G plan, the Uni5G Air service has a speed cap but it is higher at 150Mbps. As a comparison, Yes 5G offers unlimited 5G broadband capped at 120Mbps for RM148/month. The FAQ also mentions that the Unlimited term is subject to Unifi’s Fair Usage Policy which didn’t specify the monthly FUP quota.
As listed in the FAQ, the Uni5G Air offering is available without a contract if you take the SIM-only option for RM149/month. If you need a 5G wireless modem, it is bundled for free with a 24-month contract. Take note that there’s a penalty if you terminate the contract early. According to TM, the Uni5G Air router costs RM1,300 and if you terminate 5 months before the contract ends, you’ll have to pay RM271 ((RM1300 / 24) x 5 remaining months). This Uni5G Air plan is data-only so you can’t use the SIM for voice calls or SMS.
The T&C states that subscribers are required to pay an upfront payment of RM149 for registration or RM300 for non-Malaysians. The service is only applicable for users who are staying within 5G coverage areas and the advertised speed of up to 150Mbps upload and download is subjected to various external factors which include the location of the router, number of devices connected and interference.
At the moment, this plan isn’t published on Unifi’s wireless broadband page. We’ve reached out to TM for more details about the plan and availability.
