KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 14 — Top Malaysian women’s squash player S. Sivasangari continued to sizzle at the Silicon Valley Open in Redwood City, the United States, as she downed home favourite Amanda Sobhy to storm into the semi-finals today (Malaysian time).

World number eight Sivasangari, also the third seed, defeated the fifth-seeded American 12-10, 12-10, 8-11, 11-6 in a thrilling 48-minute quarter-final clash.

It was Sivasangari’s fourth win over the 32-year-old Sobhy in six meetings.

In the semi-finals, the 26-year-old Malaysian will face seventh seed Salma Hany after the Egyptian stunned Japan’s second-seeded Satomi Watanabe 11-13, 11-8, 11-9, 11-8 in the other quarter-final.

The records, though, do not favour Sivasangari, as she has only won once in three previous clashes against Hany, with their latest meeting at the El Gouna International Squash Open 2025 in April favouring the Egyptian. — Bernama
