HANGZHOU, Sept 26 — Following is the news in brief on the third day of the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games today.

Swimming

The Malaysian swimming squad failed to make any headway in the heats today starting with national swimmer Tan Khai Xin who was knocked out of the men’s 400 metres individual medley heats in 4 minutes 27.48 seconds.

Khai Xin ended the event in the 10th place out of 20 participants.

He later joined Steve Khiew, Hii Puong Wei and Bryan Leong in the men’s 4x100m medley relay heats but they finished 10th out of 16 teams in 3:46.12s.

Only the top eight teams qualify for the final.

Shooting

National shooters, Bibiana Ng Pei Chin and 2018 Commonwealth Games bronze medalist Alia Sazana Azahari will compete in the women’s 25m individual pistol event tomorrow after finishing in 21st place with 286 points and 35th place with 282 points respectively in today’s qualification round.

However, Haritz Iklil Hessly Hafiz and Nur Suryani Mohamed Taibi had to settle for 17th place as they recorded 618.4 points in the mixed team 10m air rifle event during the qualification round.

Only the top six pairs in the mixed team 10m air rifle event qualify for the final.

Rugby

The Malaysian national rugby sevens team ended their campaign at the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games in sixth place after being defeated by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) team 14-28 in the match held at the Hangzhou Normal University Cangqian Athletic Field.

In the 2018 edition, the national squad finished in fifth place.

Malaysia’s Lee Shou Kai and Chang Fu Kang crashed out in the group stage of the men’s individual event at the Hangzhou Qi-Yuan (Zhili) Chess Hall today.

Shou Kai finished ninth — and bottom — of Group A with just two points after losing his final group match 0-2 to Hong Kong’s Chan Chi Hin.

Fu Kang, competing in Group B, ended up in eighth spot out of nine participants with four points after going down 0-2 to South Korea’s Park Jeong Hwan.
