KUALA LUMPUR, April 28 — The women’s cricket squad became the first group from the Malaysian contingent to arrive in Phnom Penh, Cambodia yesterday, to participate in the 2023 SEA Games.
National Sports Council (MSN) athletes division director Jefri Ngadirin said the information was received from the contingent’s secretariat in Cambodia comprising officials from MSN, the Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) and the National Sports Institute (ISN).
“We get daily reports from the MSN, OCM and ISN staff there. At first, there were some unresolved issues such as accommodation and transportation, but Alhamdulillah, today all those problems have been sorted out.
“The cricket athletes are also already at their designated accommodation,” he told reporters after visiting the final assembly camp of the national SEA Games contingent at Casa 4, MSN here today.
Touching on the three-day camp which began today, Jefri said it involved about 550 national athletes.
He said the programme was the final phase for athletes to get motivated before Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh announced the medal target for the biennial games on Sunday.
The 2023 SEA Games will take place in Phnom Penh from May 5 to 17. — Bernama
