KUALA LUMPUR, April 5 — National men’s doubles player Goh Sze Fei aims to be in the top 50 in the world with his new partner Choong Hon Jian this year.

The 26-year-old, who has not been partnered with Nur Izzuddin Rumsani since February, said the target was set to ensure they both qualified to participate in higher level tournaments next year.

“I feel satisfied with the performance of both of us, but not satisfied with my own. I feel I can do better. I’m not calm or steady enough during the crucial points in matches.

“This doesn’t happen often but there have been a few tournaments before where it happened,” he told reporters when met during a training session at Akademi Badminton Malaysia here yesterday.

Early last month, the pair ranked 123rd in the world showed an excellent performance at the Thailand International Challenge when they reached the final but had to settle for the silver after being defeated by Thai pair Chaloempon Charoenkitamorn-Nanthakarn Yordphaison phaisong 21-15 , 15-21, 22-24.

However, the performance of Sze Fei-Hon Jian, who were seeded sixth at the Osaka International Challenge at the end of March, was off the mark when they had to make an early exit after losing to the home pair of Tori Aizawa-Yuto Noda 16-21,21 -16,13-21. — Bernama
