KANGAR, Dec 29 — The Perlis government today presented sports victory incentives to 85 recipients for their outstanding achievements in winning medals at two local sports games and two international championships.
State Youth and Sports Committee chairman Muhammad Azmir Azizan said incentives amounting to RM224,500 were handed to athletes, coaches and sports coordinators who garnered success at the 20th Malaysia Games (Sukma) 2022 and the Sukma Para Games held in the capital, recently.
“The success is the result of the tireless efforts of all parties involved in promoting the state’s name on the national scene and setting a target to obtain 20 medals at the next Games,” he said.
He was met by reporters after presenting the incentives at a ceremony held at the Banquet Hall, State Government Administration Building, here today.
At the 20th edition of Sukma, the Perlis contingent managed to bring home 23 medals in athletics, weightlifting, pencak silat, lawn bowls, canoeing, sepak takraw, boxing, sailing and muay thai.
While for the Para Sukma 2022, 15 medals were won through athletics, powerlifting and tenpin bowling.
Also at the ceremony, the gold medalist of the 2022 11th Asean Para Games, Indonesia for the F20 long jump event Datuk Abdul Latif Romly was also presented with an incentive amounting to RM3,000 which was received by his father, Romly Mat.
Apart from that, a winning incentive of RM5,000 was also presented to Syafiqa Haidar Afif Abdul Rahman who won a silver medal through lawn bowls for the ‘women’s triples’ event at the 2022 22nd edition of the Birmingham Commonwealth Games. — Bernama
