KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 23 ― Harimau Malaya’s disastrous 2019 Asian Cup campaign has pushed Malaysia down to 174 in the latest world football ranking by the International Football Federation (Fifa).
The Fifa official website said Malaysia dropped four rungs following the dramatic rise of Indonesia and Barbados, who share the 154 spot.
Malaysia’s 174 position is the worst for the country since the ranking system was introduced by Fifa.
Iran remains the best Asian country at 32, up two rungs, followed by Australia (39), Japan (55) and South Korea (59).
The Philippines is the best Southeast Asian country despite falling two rungs to 118, followed by Vietnam (125) and Thailand (132).
Malaysia’s two best world football rankings were 75 in 1993 and 89 in 1994. ― Bernama
