SINGAPORE, April 13 — A boy is assisting the police in a case of motor vehicle theft involving a private bus belonging to private transport operator A&S Transit, after he is believed to have driven the bus that was later found along Tampines Avenue 10.
In response to TODAY’s queries today, the police said that they were alerted to a case of motor vehicle theft at 12.04pm the day before at the said location.
“A boy is assisting with investigations in relation to the case,” they added without giving other details.
TODAY understands that the bus was found parked along Tampines Avenue 10 and the boy was spotted later on near the site.
Images posted on social media showed what looked like paint marks and dents on the exterior of the bus.
In a statement posted on its Facebook page on Thursday, A&S Transit said that it is “aware of public concerns” regarding the case of its stolen bus and called the incident “unfortunate”.
“It is not in A&S’s intention for the matter to be public, but we would like to address the concerns that have arisen. The issue involves a minor and we do not wish for any undue stress on the person, taking into consideration that it is approaching the school examinations period.”
It also said that while it does not condone the action of the minor involved, it hopes to support the person and any youth in guiding them to “express their passion in healthy ways”.
It then asked the public not to “fan speculations any further”.
