SINGAPORE, March 16 — A shipment of replica guns meant to be delivered to a man in Singapore led the police to find four more when they arrested the man and placed a 61-year-old woman under investigation.

The 42-year-old man was arrested on Monday (March 13) for his suspected involvement in importing 20 replica guns and 54 magazines and the woman was believed to have helped to import similar items on past occasions, the police said in a news release on Wednesday.

The shipment was detected by officers from the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) when they saw unusual scanned images of an import container at Tuas Port on Monday, the police added.

ICA officers then checked the container and uncovered an unlicensed shipment containing the haul. The case was then referred to the police.

Follow-up investigations by officers from Woodlands Police Division established that the shipment was intended to be delivered to the male suspect.

Two replica guns were seized during his arrest.

The woman was found to be involved in the operation and another two replica guns were seized from her.

Police investigations are ongoing.

Replica toy guns are controlled items under the Regulation of Imports and Exports Act 1995.

If what the duo did were found to be illegal, their offences will be punishable under Section 3(3) of the Act.

This law states that any first-time offender who violates subsidiary legislations such as the Regulation of Imports and Exports Regulations may be fined up to S$100,000 or three times the value of the goods in relation to the offence, whichever is greater, or be jailed up to two years, or both. — TODAY
