KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 6 — Tamil film star Vijay Sethupathi is set to present an award at the 54th International Emmy Awards in New York later this month, reportedly becoming the first Indian actor to do so.
According to The Times of India yesterday, Sethupathi will be among the presenters at the ceremony scheduled for November 23.
The development was first reported by The Hollywood Reporter India, which credited producer Kavita Gupta, a board member of the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, with helping secure his participation.
The academy has confirmed that this year’s ceremony will recognise 64 nominees across 16 categories, representing 22 countries.
Among the Indian productions nominated are Real Kashmir Football Club in the drama series category and comedian Vir Das’s Netflix special Vir Das: Fool Volume in the comedy category.
Das previously hosted the International Emmy Awards in 2024, becoming the first Indian to take on the role after winning an award in 2023 for his comedy special Vir Das: Landing.
Meanwhile, actress Priyanka Chopra previously presented an award alongside Tom Hiddleston at the 2016 Primetime Emmy Awards in Los Angeles, a separate ceremony from the International Emmys.
Sethupathi recently appeared in the Tamil film Baththa, in which he portrayed a gangster, and is reportedly set to star opposite Sai Pallavi in Mani Ratnam’s upcoming romantic drama Inji Vellam.
His 2024 Tamil thriller Maharaja has also attracted interest from Hollywood for a possible English-language remake following its success in China.
Producer Sudhan Sundaram told The Times of India in September that a Hollywood agency had approached the filmmakers for the remake rights and was working to bring a major Hollywood actor on board.
However, no casting or studio arrangements for the proposed remake have been officially announced.
