KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 2 — Canadian music superstar The Weeknd has touched down in Kuala Lumpur ahead of his back-to-back After Hours Til Dawn stadium concerts this week, marking the final international stop of his historic world tour.
The four-time Grammy winner, whose real name is Abel Tesfaye, teased his arrival on Instagram Story earlier today, posting a panoramic view of a rain-swept city centre with both the Petronas Twin Towers and Menara Kuala Lumpur in full frame.
The global pop icon will take the stage at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil on November 4 and 5. Having swept through the Americas, Europe, and Australia since kicking off in 2022, the stadium spectacle made its long-awaited Southeast Asian debut this year, with Kuala Lumpur securing the distinction of hosting the tour’s final two closing dates.
Key members of Tesfaye’s touring party, including choreographers, dancers, personal trainers, and pyrotechnic crew members, also arrived in the federal capital ahead of setup and stage rehearsals, sharing glimpses of their journeys and local sights on social media.
Longtime creative collaborator La Mar Taylor, the co-founder and creative director of the singer’s label XO Records, similarly shared skyline views overlooking the city.
The Weeknd arrives in Malaysia fresh off a four-night run in Hong Kong that concluded on October 31, which dominated social media following the surprise live debut of his new single titled ‘Hong Kong’. The track, which landed on digital streaming platforms the same evening, earned widespread acclaim for sampling Cantopop diva Faye Wong’s iconic 1993 ballad Monsoon. Throughout the tour, the singer has frequently introduced location-inspired releases, previously unveiling regional tracks tied to his tour stops in Brazil and Japan.
The After Hours Til Dawn Tour secured a place in music history late last year after surpassing 7.5 million ticket sales and grossing over US$1 billion (RM4.1 billion), cementing its status as the highest-earning concert tour ever mounted by a male solo artist.
