KUALA LUMPUR, August 11 — K-Pop superstars are set to bring the heat at Borneo’s biggest music event.
Taeyang of K-pop boyband Big Bang and CL (formerly of 2NE1) are set to headline the Borneo Sonic 2023 music festival from October 6 to 7 2023 at Sarawak Stadium.
K-Pop boyband EXO leader Suho and global pop singer Hyoyeon will join the festival’s exciting lineup including Australian DJ DJ Havanna Brown and US rapper Fatman Scoop.
Taeyang’s most recent outing was with his single Shoong! featuring Blackpink’s Lisa, which entered charts worldwide.
CL, known as ‘the baddest female’ of K-Pop, had her second solo album Alpha in 2021 and last performed at Coachella in 2022, reuniting with her 2NE1 members onstage.
The rapper came to Malaysia last year as one of the headline acts at Good Vibes Weekender 2022 alongside Jackson Wang.
Malaysian singer Ning Baizura and DOLLA among other local acts will also be performing.
Ticket prices for the festival range from RM488 to RM1288 and will go live on August 18 at www.borneosonic.com.
Sarawak Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said that the festival will be a milestone event for the region.
“Sarawak is one of the best places to hold an event where almost every weekend there will be activities held in the state,” he said during a press conference yesterday.
“We expect the visitors who will be present at Borneo Sonic 2023 to be around 30,000 at the Sarawak Stadium. Kuching is always ready to be used as a venue for music festivals.”
He added that the festival will be the ‘first and biggest’ music event ever in Borneo.
