KUALA LUMPUR, August 9 — Malaysian director Amanda Nell Eu will be taking her talent to the United States after her success at the Cannes Film Festival,
This is after the 37-year-old was signed up by US-based talent agency The Gersh Agency, as reported by Deadline.
Eu made history after her debut feature film Tiger Stripes won the top spot at the Cannes Critics Week 2023, making it the first Malaysian film to win the grand prize at the prestigious event.
Tiger Stripes is only the fourth Malaysian film to have competed at the International Cannes’ Critics’ Week since 2010.
The film went on to win the Narcisse Award for Best Feature at the Swedish film festival, Neufchâtel Fantastic Film Festival in July this year.
Tiger Stripes tells the story of 12-year-old Zaffan played by up and coming actress Zafreen Zairizal who discovers a terrifying secret about her body as she goes through puberty and ultimately learnt to embrace it.
The film boasts a lineup of local stars including Shaheizy Sam, Fatimah Abu Bakar and June Lojong.
Eu who was born in Malaysia and raised in the United Kingdom, graduated from the London Film School and has also studied at the Locarno Filmmakers Academy.
Gersh Agency is an established talent agency in the US which is known for their broad spectrum of creative services which includes talent management, production, literary and books as well as branding.
Amongst big names that have also signed with them includes comedian Dave Chappelle, actors John Cusack, David Koechner as well as Jaimi Alexander.
