KUALA LUMPUR, July 30 — Famous Malaysian 90’s cartoon Keluang Man is getting its own live action adaptation.

It will be helmed by local production house Astro Shaw Sdn Bhd that has confirmed pre-production for the film is underway.

The film will be directed by Anwari Ashraf Hashim, known for directing local hit-series Projek High Council as well as the writer for the local blockbuster film Polis Evo.

In a Facebook post yesterday, the studio announced it was looking for local talents to play the titular character, and that they were currently accepting video submissions starting from July 28 until August 13.

Submissions are open for Malaysian male citizens aged between 21 to 40 years old, fluent in Bahasa Malaysia with attractive character and personality and a sturdy physique.

Possessing martial arts skills is a bonus.

Those interested can submit their 3-minute mp4 video talking about their personality via the QR code provided in the audition poster and shortlisted candidates will be notified by the studio.

According to Utusan Malaysia, Astro Shaw head Raja Jastina Raja Arshad said that the reason they are opening the auditions was to is to give an opportunity to both local celebrities and local talent to showcase their talents.

“This iconic character is really close to our audience.

“We hope to find a talent who can perfectly fit the local superhero criteria through this search,” she said.

Keluang Man was a popular animated TV series aired from 1998 which was co-created by the late local animator Kamarudin Ismail also known as Kamn Ismail.

The series ran for seven seasons with over 140 episodes.

It follows the adventures of a mental hospital patient in Tampoi named Borhan whose alter ego is Keluang Man.

Together with his sidekick Tiong Man, both of them work together fighting crimes during the night.
