KUALA LUMPUR, July 11 — Two veteran rock singers — Datuk Ahmad Azhar Othman and Datuk Suhaimi Abdul Rahman — have finally buried the hatchet after being not on talking terms since 2019.

Ahmad Azhar, popularly known as Awie, said they decided to put aside their egoes and forgive each other in a meeting that was arranged by a third party, New Straits Times reported.

“It took me weeks before agreeing to this meeting. But after giving it some thought, I don’t want to appear rude to someone who is so much ‘senior’.

“I respect him as a big brother in the local rock music scene and there’s no better person to be called the country’s No.1 (rock singer) other than him,” Awie told reporters when their bands, Wings and Search, performed during the two-day music festival Nusa Fest 2023 recently.

Awie, 54, added being the younger one, it was not shameful to put aside his ego first and seek forgiveness from 64-year-old Suhaimi, popularly known as Amy.

“Life’s too short to be holding a grudge against old buddies,” he added.

Awie also said that following the recent reunion with his two estranged children — Putra Ahmad Rezzki, 15, and Putri Qasseh Antasha, 13 — it had made him want to make amends with others he was at odds with.

As to why the duo stopped talking to each other, Awie revealed that it happened following the passing of Search member, Yazit Ahmad, in 2019.

Amy was said to have taken offence by Awie’s statement which implied the former had neglected Yazit prior to his death.
