KUALA LUMPUR, June 30 – Actress Nabila Huda is making up for lost time with 13-year-old daughter Keisha Laila, who just began secondary school this year.
The Munafik actress shared that she couldn’t spend enough time with Keisha before, being too focused on taking on jobs as she was a single mother then who needed to provide for her family.
She said that she felt bad for not getting involved in her daughter’s school activities before, and is now determined to turn it all around.
“Sometimes I feel like a failed mother especially during her kindergarten years. I missed her sports day and her report card day. I really couldn’t find the time, I felt so bad and this is not good.
“So this time around, as she enters secondary school, I managed to send her off on her first day and I told her ‘Keisha, you just relax, I will make sure that I will get involved with everything happening at your school’.
“Even during your school’s sports day, if they needed a mascot or anything, I can volunteer,” Nabila said.
And she appears to be keeping her word, actively sharing on social media her involvement in her daughter’s life, from preparing Keisha’s daily school meals to attending the school’s parents-teacher association (PIBG) meeting as well as co-curricular activities.
She added that she’s grateful to have Keisha who understood her situation after having explained it when she was younger.
Keisha is Nabila’s first and only child from her marriage with rapper Eddie G or his real name Zaidi Zailani, whom she wed in 2008.
Their marriage lasted until 2011.
Nabila tied the knot with restaurant owner Mohd Izwan Johar in December 2015.
The daughter of Amy Search meanwhile recently caught the attention of social media users with her trip to New York.
Nabila, who was there to shoot a local cooking programme called Masak Sana Sini New York for RTM, received praise from local social media users for parading the traditional ‘kebaya’.
She had 30 ‘kebaya’ for the 26-episode shoot there.
The idea of donning the ‘kebaya’ however came to her just two days before her flight.
“I had to google a local ‘kebaya’ boutique and I found one boutique called the Royal Kebaya online. I immediately called them and explained to them my plans and the reason I wanted to wear the ‘kebaya’.
“By the end of the day, the boutique called me back and said that they’re willing to loan me 30 pairs of ‘kebaya’. It’s a win-win situation for both of us as I can help promote their brand at the same time.
“I asked them for their Nyonya ‘kebaya’ as its design is unique to me,” she said.
She added that her plans to showcase Malaysian culture had worked out just as planned as she has been receiving compliments from the public with many asking her about the ‘kebaya’.
