KUALA LUMPUR, April 28 — Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil shared the sad news of the passing of XPDC vocalist Syed Ismail Syed Ibrahim, better known as Mael, who died last night.
Fahmi said as one of the vocalist’s fans, he prayed that Syed Ismail’s soul be placed among the righteous.
“I am one of his millions of fans, and people around me know that the song, Semangat yang Hilang (one of XPDC’s hit tracks) is my favourite song. May Allah place him among the righteous,” he said in his Facebook post.
Meanwhile, the news of Mael’s passing was also shared by his manager, known as Bro Yazid, through his Facebook post.
“Innalillahiwainnailaihirojiun, Al-Fatihah, XPDC singer, Syed Ismail Syed Ibrahim (Mael), breathed his last at Muar Hospital at 9 this evening,” he said.
XPDC was a popular rock band from the 1980s to the 1990s and often held concerts at funfairs nationwide, earning the group the nickname ‘Raja Funfair’ (King of the Funfairs). — Bernama
