KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 16 — Streaming service Netflix will be premiering a three-part documentary series on the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 (MH370) on March 8.

This is also in line with the ninth anniversary of the tragedy where 239 passengers along with crew on board disappeared from radar screen shortly after taking off.

MH370 was on its routine flight from Kuala Lumpur heading to Beijing.

According to Netflix’s site, The MH370: The Plane That Disappeared will bring together a global community of family members, scientists and investigative journalists as they continue to search for answers.

The first episode will take a closer look into the first few hours and days following the plane’s disappearance, including what happened when conspiracy theories and false accusations started to spiral out of control.

The second episode will have experts discussing the shooting down of MH17 by a Russian missile, killing all 298 people on board, which took place just four months after the disappearance of MH370.

The third episode explores the discovery of a large section of a plane wing washed up on the shore off the East African Coast.

The wreckage was later confirmed to have come from MH370 by the then prime minister of Malaysia, Datuk Seri Najib Razak and other experts, although some journalists and family members remain sceptical of the discovery.

Experts featured in the documentary include science journalist and author of The Plane That Wasn’t There: Why We Haven’t Found MH370, Jeff Wise as well as reporter and foreign correspondent, Florence de Changy.

The documentary is helmed by director Louise Malkinson who’s known for producing crime documentaries such as 2021’s Catching a Predator.

“(The families) want people to keep talking about this.

“The families want a platform to be able to say ‘Come on, it’s been nine years’. They were all united on that,” Malkinson said.
