KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 18 — A remake of the highly acclaimed 1990 movie, Ghost which starred Patrick Swayze alongside Demi Moore might be in the pipeline.
This is following a Vanity Fair interview with Hollywood actor Channing Tatum, who recently revealed that his production company, Free Association, actually holds the rights to the award-winning film.
The company is currently trying to put together a remake of the classic with Tatum filling in Swayze's role.
“But we’re going to do something different,” Tatum said, adding that there were some problematic stereotypes in the original film as many of the films during that time had.
Ghost follows the story of a murdered banker Sam Wheat (Swayze) whose soul went on to protect his girlfriend Molly (Demi Moore) from his enemies.
The film also saw actress Whoopi Goldberg bagging an Oscar for best supporting actress for her role as the psychic Odae Mae Brown, who helped Sam in his time of need.
Released in July 1990, the film went on to become the highest grossing film of 1990 and won two Academy Awards including the award for original screenplay.
Meanwhile, Tatum is back on set after taking almost a five year hiatus from acting.
The actor will be returning with the third instalment of his Magic Mike franchise, Magic Mike's Last Dance which is based loosely on his time as a stripper in Tampa, Florida.
