KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 17 — Fresh from his Sunday (January 15) concert at National Stadium Bukit Jalil, fans of Jay Chou from across the causeway are complaining of being shortchanged.
Drawing comparison to the King of Mandopop's December 17 and 18 concerts in Singapore, they took to Chou's official Instagram to gripe about the differences in the 43-year-old's performance.
Instagram user @hp4yong attended the concert in Singapore and when it ended, she had waited for an encore.
“I only get to listen to two hours and 10 minutes of the concert but if you attend the concert in Malaysia, you get to listen to three hours of performance. I am heartbroken.”
Another Instagram user @oh_t_16 flew to the Lion City to watch Chou's concerts but ended up disappointed.
“If I knew there would be changes, I would have gone to the concert in Malaysia. I am crying.”
Meanwhile @_.annie0511._ questioned why there was no encore for the show in Singapore.
During the December concerts, fans had complained that Chou's performances fell short of their expectations.
They vented their frustrations over his lack of vocal prowess and the show's programme.
One online user claimed that Chou’s voice was rough, unable to hit the notes of his own songs and relying too much on his backup singers.
Some concertgoers also claimed that Chou’s voice was too soft, and that he was overshadowed by the lighting and special effects on stage.
Other users on social media site Xiaohongshu complained that Chou sang sparingly as his show featured long sections of magic performances throughout the concert.
