KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 28 — The ninth season of local reality show Gegar Vaganza (GV9) saw songstress Jaclyn Victor being crowned champion last night.
The final showdown, which was held at the auditorium of Shah Alam Municipal Council, saw the Malaysian Idol season one winner competing with five other finalists. Victor took home the cash prize of RM100,000 and a trophy.
All of the finalists had to perform two solo songs along with two ‘battle’ songs, of which they were paired together to battle it out.
For her solo segment, Victor performed the iconic All Coming Back To Me Now by Celine Dion as well as This Is Me by Keala Settle, which is from the soundtrack of 2017’s The Greatest Showman film.
As for the battle round, Victor went head to head with well-known local group VE, Harian Metro reported.
Victor and VE battled it out on stage by performing The Real Slim Shady by rapper Eminem, along with Sang Saka Biru by local rappers Joe Flizzow, Altimet, SoneOne and Alyph.
Meanwhile, the runner up of GV9 went to Akademi Fantasia contestant Bob Yusof, who took home a RM50,000 cash prize along with a trophy.
AJL36 winner Shila Amzah came in third place while singer Tomok won fourth place.
Shila managed to win a RM30,000 cash prize and a trophy while Tomok got a RM20,000 cash prize and a trophy.
Fifth and sixth place went to VE and singer Hazrul Nizam respectively; they won cash prizes of RM15,000 and RM10,000 along with trophies.
Gegar Vaganza is known for its original judging format based on a 100 per cent grading system conducted by a jury panel made up of professionals.
The jury panel included prominent music maestro Datuk Ramli MS, Indonesian songstress Hetty Koes Endang and vocal coach Datuk Syafinaz Selamat.
