KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 10 — Another day, another famous woman being body-shamed.
This time, it is Indonesian singer Bunga Citra Lestari or also known as BCL.
The popular celebrity recently had social media speculating whether she was pregnant. Or not.
This was after a video of her performing recently, showed a ‘bump’ in her tummy which led to the speculation.
BCL duly clapped back at them by saying that she was not pregnant.
According to Berita Harian, BCL who considered the comments as body shaming said that she was just a human being, adding that changes in someone’s appearances should not be questioned.
“I was saddened by the body shaming comments but I know that not everyone understands why my tummy looked that way.
“There are a few aspects to it (the video) including my body positioning, the angle it was taken from, the lighting and the ‘bump’ was caused by my period at that time.
“Plus, I love to snack during midnight and I’m not getting any younger. I will be 40 soon, so of course there will be changes in (my) appearance,” she said.
Aside from that, BCL initially hoped for a more positive outcome from the public regarding her ‘vibrant’ look, however it went the other way around.
“Three years ago, I was skinny, and my body weight was dropping even though I ate a lot. But now, with the same diet, I’m gaining weight.
“I was hoping that the public would notice that I’m healthier and more vibrant nowadays, maybe because my grieving stage is coming to an end even though it’s still a long journey. However, their reactions were totally the opposite,” she said.
She added that nowadays, she’s more focused on living a healthier lifestyle both physically and mentally.
Aside from that, the circulating TikTok video which showed BCL performing in a white-cropped t-shirt which exposed her belly, had also left social media users speculating that BCL is in a relationship with fellow Indonesian singer, Ariel.
“Me and Ariel are best friends. And we’ve been best of friends since my late husband, Ashraf was still around.
“Those are just social media user’s speculations for their own amusement,” she said.
BCL met with local media on Wednesday at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) during the BCL Blossom Intimate Concert’s press conference.
She will be doing her first ever solo performance in Malaysia this January 27 taking place at the Plenary Hall, KLCC.
BCL also shared that she had managed to visit her late husband, Ashraf Sinclair’s graveyard just before coming to Malaysia as it was their 14-year-wedding anniversary.
Previously, Ashraf and BCL tied the knot back in November 2008 and both were blessed with a son, Noah Sinclair, who is 13 years old this year.
Ashraf was pronounced dead in the early morning of February 18, 2020, at the age of 40 after suffering from a heart attack.
He was laid to rest at the San Diego Hills Memorial Park Cemetery, Karawang in West Java.
