KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 31 — As Hong Kong broadcaster TVB continues to face falling ratings due to an exodus of their well-known faces, the station is turning to acclaimed actresses Charmaine Sheh and Tavia Yeung to retain viewer support.
Sources said the station had invited the duo to return to their “alma mater” to film a new drama collaboration. The duo, who left the station in 2016 after their contract expired, were expected to bring in stellar ratings, Jayne Stars reported.
According to sources, the drama is tentatively titled Anchorwoman and is based on US drama series The Morning Show.
As proof of Sheh's star power, Story of Yanxi Palace garnered 31.3 viewership points and surged to 39.2 during its finale episode.
Fans are said to be looking forward to the plotting and backstabbing antics, as demonstrated by characters played by Sheh and Yeung in 2019 costume drama Beyond the Realm of Conscience.
Previously, there had been suggestions for the station to engage its former stars who still owe them shows to return and repay the “debt”.
Among the big names said to owe TVB are Sheh and actors Louis Koo, Stephen Chow and Leo Ku.
Koo left the station after completing shooting of A Step into the Past and during an interview in 2013, he admitted that he still owed TVB shows.
As for Sheh, she is said to still owe TVB one series while Ku previously admitted he still owes TVB two series.
