LOS ANGELES, July 1 — Hanna-Barbera’s classic sci-fi cartoon The Jetsons is returning as a live action series, with a producer from Family Guy and Will & Grace assigned to oversee it.
A new live-action adaptation of The Jetsons is being developed in tandem with the previously-announced animated feature film, according to TV Line.
Gary Janetti, a co-executive producer on both Family Guy and Will & Grace, has taken on the Warner Bros project, which will gauge interest from broadcast and cable networks "in the coming weeks."
Also associated with the TV series is Robert Zemeckis — director of Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Back to the Future, Forrest Gump, Cast Away and The Polar Express, among others — as well as long-time Zemeckis collaborator Jack Rapke and Jackie Levine.
All three are attached as producers, the report advises.
Zemeckis, Rapke and Levine are already working together on the director’s 2018 remake of an award-winning assault recovery documentary, Marwencol, which is to star Steve Carell, Gwendoline Christie, Janelle Monáe, Eiza González and Diane Kruger.
In May 2017, Warner Bros confirmed Conrad Vernon of Shrek 2, Madagascar 3 and Sausage Party as the director of its Jetsons film. — AFP-Relaxnews
