SINGAPORE, June 21 — Singapore will have two bands — The Sam Willows and Wicked Aura – represented at this year’s Summer Sonic music festival in Japan.

Held over two days (August 19-20) in Tokyo and Osaka this year, Summer Sonic is arguably one of the largest and most prestigious music festivals in Japan, alongside the Fuji Rock Festival. The Foo Fighters will be headlining the festival this year, before heading to Singapore for a concert at the National Stadium on August 26.

This is not the first time that there will be a Singapore presence at Summer Sonic. In 2015, rock purveyors Caracal and jazz outfit The Steve McQueens represented Singapore, while last year’s edition saw singer-songwriter Linying take the stage.

The Sam Willows and Wicked Aura will be performing at the Island Stage on August 20 in Tokyo. Among other international and Japanese acts set to perform at the festival are BABYMETAL, MAN WITH A MISSION, Royal Blood, Axwell Λ Ingrosso, Kesha, Sum 41 and Good Charlotte.

Last year’s Summer Sonic festival saw 65,000 people turn up on Sunday alone, according to the Japan Times. The headliner last year was Radiohead. — TODAY
