KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 22 ― Bursa Malaysia stayed in the red at mid-morning, dampened by continuous selling in selected heavyweights, led by industrial products and services counters, said a dealer.

Petronas Chemicals gave up nine sen, or 1.23 per cent, to RM7.22, and Press Metal Aluminium went down five sen to RM4.85. The two counters dragged the composite index down by 1.85 points.

At 11am, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) fell 3.65 points to 1,444.56 from yesterday’s close of 1,448.21.

The index opened 2.33 points easier at 1,445.88.

The market breadth was negative, with decliners leading gainers 364 to 278, while 434 counters were unchanged, 1,315 untraded, and 49 others suspended.

Turnover stood at 1.16 billion units worth RM574.09 million.

Among the heavyweights, Maybank slid two sen to RM8.88, and IHH Healthcare slipped one sen to RM5.96.

Meanwhile, Public Bank, CIMB and TNB were flat at RM4.21, RM5.59, and RM10.06, respectively.

Of the actives, KNM and Tanco added half-a-sen each to 12.5 sen and 56 sen, respectively; both Ekovest and UEM Sunrise gained two sen to 58.5 sen and 90 sen, respectively, while Bumi Armada was up by one sen to 56.5 sen.

On the index board, the FBMT 100 declined 23.51 points to 10,368.50, the FBM Emas Index dropped 21.32 points to 10,705.32, the FBM ACE edged down 25.14 points to 5,189.00, the FBM Emas Shariah slid 30.70 points to 10,941.77 and the FBM 70 contracted 20.70 points to 14,266.86.

Sector-wise, the Industrial Products and Services Index eased 0.84 of-a-point to 173.57, the Plantation Index dropped 18.41 points to 6,906.69, and the Financial Services Index slumped 12.53 points to 16,215.44.

Meanwhile, the Energy Index was up 7.44 points to 899.33. ― Bernama
