KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 4 ― Bursa Malaysia continued to trend higher at mid-afternoon today buoyed by gains on selected blue-chips.

At 3pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) was 4.62 points higher at 1,446.47 from 1,441.85 at yesterday’s close.

The benchmark index opened 0.64 of-a-point higher at 1,442.49.

The broader market was also positive with gainers leading losers 392 to 330, while 429 counters were unchanged, 1,125 untraded and 26 others suspended.

Turnover stood at 1.87 billion units worth RM801.91 million.

Among the heavyweights, Maybank rose three sen to 8.93, Public Bank and CIMB added four sen each to RM4.13 and RM5.50, respectively, Tenaga Nasional increased one sen to RM9.57, and Petronas Chemicals was flat at RM6.85.

Of the actives, Classita, KNM and Widad were all flat at 16 sen, 9.0 sen and 43 sen, respectively, while BTM fell one sen to 8.0 sen and Pestech went up two sen to 28.5 sen.

On the index board, the FBM Emas Index advanced 31.44 points to 10,624.66, the FBMT 100 Index improved by 28.85 points to 10,316.86, the FBM Emas Shariah Index rose 3.48 points to 10,873.22, and the FBM 70 Index rose 21.64 points to 13,916.60. The FBM ACE Index trimmed 65.03 points to 5,236.82.

Sector-wise, the Industrial Products and Services Index ticked up 0.51 of-a-point to 166.34, the Financial Services Index increased 107.87 points to 16,170.84, the Plantation Index eased 14.22 points to 7,090.48, and the Energy Index grew 2.69 points to 827.55. ― Bernama
