KUALA LUMPUR, July 5 ― Bursa Malaysia retained its positive tone at mid-afternoon, bucking the downtrend among regional peers.

At 3pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) inched up 0.71 of-a-point to 1,393.20 from 1,392.49 at yesterday’s close.

The key index opened 0.11 points lower at 1,392.38 this morning.

However, the broader market was negative as decliners surpassed gainers 408 to 349, while 397 counters were unchanged, 1,081 untraded and 18 others suspended.

Turnover stood at 1.66 billion units worth RM815.87 million.

Among the heavyweights, IHH Healthcare gained two sen to RM5.85, Public Bank slid one sen to RM3.90 and Tenaga Nasional shed three sen to RM9.10, while Maybank and CIMB were flat at RM8.70 and RM5.20, respectively.

Of the actives, BTM Resources ticked up half-a-sen to 9.5 sen, Parkson earned 2.5 sen to 21.5 sen and KNM gave up half-a-sen to 7.5 sen, while TWL Holdings and Widad were flat at 3.5 sen and 42 sen, respectively.

On the index board, the FBM Emas Index improved 1.41 points to 10,260.23, the FBMT 100 Index perked 1.38 points to 9,957.18, the FBM ACE Index was 28.34 points firmer at 5,123.21 and the FBM Emas Shariah Index picked up 13.01 points to 10,543.39, while the FBM 70 Index erased 13.77 points to 13,517.33.

Sector-wise, the Energy Index shrank 3.94 points to 788.47 and the Plantation Index recovered 73.28 points to 6,903.02, while the Financial Services Index declined 14.04 points to 15,469.13, and the Industrial Products and Services Index edged down 0.03 of-a-point to 158.77. ― Bernama
