GUA MUSANG, June 26 — Residents in Gua Musang can now look forward to more job opportunities, thanks to the unity government’s efforts to set up a mega broiler chicken farm.

Paloh 1 resident, Mahamad Napi Mat Nasir, 57, said he was happy about the announcement and expects that unemployment in the area will drop thanks to the jobs made available to locals.

“The project will provide more jobs to the community here. Previously they had to go out to other areas to look for work,” he told Bernama here today.

Fellow resident, Amier Zailanee Bahrom, 33, said the farm would benefit the community, especially youth in the district.

“As a youth in Gua Musang, I really support this project as it will solve the food supply crisis and help the government tackle any problems it faces,” he said.

Paloh community chairman, Amran Arifin meanwhile said that the farm would be a new economic source for the local community.

“This would not only increase chicken supply in the domestic market but will support government efforts to develop broiler chicken production capacity, which is an important agenda in the national food security policy.

“I would like to thank the government for being so concerned and for caring about the problems faced by Malaysians,” he said.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had previously announced that Felcra Berhad had implemented four mega indoor broiler chicken farms in rural areas throughout the country to ensure the country’s chicken supply.

The four farms are located at Tanjung Seratus, Kuala Rompin (300,000 birds/cycle), Sungai Damak, Lipis, Pahang (250,000 birds/cycle), Padang Terap, Kedah (250,000 birds/cycle), and Paloh 4, Gua Musang, Kelantan (250,000 birds/cycle). — Bernama
