JOHOR BARU, June 4 — China-based EcoCeres, through its unit EcoCeres Renewable Fuels Sdn Bhd, is investing RM1 billion to set up a sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production facility in Pasir Gudang, Johor.
Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi said the project, to be fully completed by end of 2024, would create more than 260 new job opportunities for the locals.
“I wish to thank EcoCeres for choosing Tanjung Langsat, Pasir Gudang, Johor, as its first investment destination in the production of biofuel in Malaysia,” he said in a Facebook post today.
According to him, the company is set to produce SAF and hydro-treated vegetable oil (HVO).
“The state government always supports efforts to produce sustainable oil and fuels derived from plants or biodiesel, such as HVO and SAF, which will increase investor confidence in Johor’s green and sustainability agenda.
“Hopefully, all that has been planned will bear fruit, thus helping Johor to realise its target of becoming a developed state by 2030,” he added.
Earlier today, Onn Hafiz officiated at EcoCeres Renewable Fuels’ ground-breaking ceremony in Tanjung Langsat and shared related photos on the social media platform. — Bernama
