KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 16 — The Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, Malaysia’s premier award-winning purpose-built venue has achieved a strong performance with the venue achieving 40 per cent more than its 2022 target.

In a statement, it said the centre successfully hosted close to 1,350 events with over 750,000 delegates welcomed which contributed approximately RM285 million in economic impact to Malaysia.

KL Convention Centre general manager Alan Pryor said the centre has been receiving more international requests for site visits for their upcoming meetings, which is indicative of the industry’s strong recovery moving forward.

“We are proud to have recently added six new bid wins to our calendar of events which will be held between 2024 and 2026, and are expected to attract over 16,000 delegates from around the world,” he said.

Meanwhile, the centre director of sales Ravindran Sathiamoorthy said of the events hosted in 2022, the corporate meetings and banqueting events including the corporate sales segment was the biggest contributor with 50 per cent.

“This was followed by 26 per cent conventions and exhibitions with 24 per cent.

“With about 100 events or 50 per cent of our 2023 target already confirmed, we anticipate the industry returning to pre-pandemic levels sooner than expected and hope this positive trajectory continues for business events moving forward,” he said.

The centre, next year looks forward to welcoming more high-profile international meetings and events next year, including the IEEE International Instrumentation and Measurement Technology Conference (I2MTC) 2023; IEEE International Conference on Image Processing (ICIP) 2023 and more.
