KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 6 — Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor has denied knowing anything about arrangements to settle the RM50 million fine that would allow her husband, former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest.

According to a report by the New Straits Times, she told reporters at the Kuala Lumpur courts complex that the family had been kept in the dark about any payment developments today.

“I do not know. You all know better,” she said.

“The family does not know and I am not being told about it.”

Her comments came after she attended a hearing for her application to introduce fresh evidence in her solar hybrid corruption case.

Reporters then showed her a Malay daily report claiming two individuals, said to be Najib’s representatives, were seen at the court’s payment counter this morning.

A puzzled Rosmah asked who the two were.

“They always know better and then after that they retract,” she said, referring to the media.

Utusan Malaysia had earlier reported that the two individuals were believed to have sought information on the procedures for paying the fine.

She also distanced herself from Umno’s crowdfunding drive to raise the RM50 million, saying she was not involved and directing questions to party secretary-general Datuk Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki.

Asyraf Wajdi on Wednesday denied Najib was preparing to pay, noting the crowdfunding campaign had yet to hit its target.

He declined to reveal how much the Najib Razak Solidarity Fund, launched on September 18, had collected.

Lawyer Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah has also said he received no instructions from Najib to settle the fine.

Attorney General Tan Sri Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar confirmed on Sunday that the fine remains unpaid and that no deadline has been set.

Sultan Ibrahim, the King of Malaysia, granted Najib a conditional pardon on September 18, permitting him to serve the rest of his term under house arrest until August 23, 2028, provided the fine and other conditions are met.

Najib, 73, has been at Kajang Prison since August 23, 2022, after the Federal Court upheld his conviction over the misappropriation of RM42 million from SRC International Sdn Bhd.

His original sentence was 12 years’ jail and a RM210 million fine, which the Federal Territories Pardons Board reduced in January 2024 to six years and RM50 million.
