GEORGE TOWN, Nov 2 — Penang police have confirmed receiving a report from the wife of an assemblyman who alleged that she was assaulted by her husband at their residence here last Saturday.
Penang police chief Datuk Dennis Lim Kwang Keng said police were conducting further investigations into the incident, with an investigation paper opened under Section 323 of the Penal Code.
“Police have recorded statements from four individuals, including the husband and wife, and no arrests have been made so far in connection with the case.
“The investigation paper will be referred to the Deputy Public Prosecutor for further instructions,” he told reporters at a press conference at the Penang Police Contingent Headquarters here today.
Lim also denied claims by the assemblyman’s wife that police had failed to take action on the report she lodged.
He stressed that the police had taken the appropriate action upon receiving the report and would also obtain medical confirmation regarding the injuries allegedly sustained by the woman. — Bernama
