NIBONG TEBAL, Oct 25 — PKR’s move to field 30 per cent women candidates in the Melaka state election is part of the party’s strategy to offer voters a more inclusive choice, said Wanita PKR chief Datuk Seri Fadhlina Sidek.

She said fielding more women candidates could also strengthen women’s representation in state politics.

“I think this is also a good offering for the people to make their choice, particularly in our efforts to continue elevating women as candidates for the Melaka State Legislative Assembly,” she told reporters after officiating at the Nibong Tebal parliamentary constituency-level Jelajah Negaraku: Aku Kasih Malaysia programme here today.

Fadhlina, who is also Education Minister, said that Pakatan Harapan (PH) had also launched the slogan “Melaka Rumah Kita” (Melaka, Our Home) as part of the coalition’s approach to contesting the election.

Yesterday, PH chairman and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced 21 candidates to contest in the Melaka state election.

The Election Commission has set October 31 for nomination day, November 10 for early voting and November 14 as polling day for the 16th Melaka State Election. — Bernama
