KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 17 — PKR vice-president Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari today denied allegations that the party orchestrated a khalwat case involving former minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad to undermine a political rival.

Amirudin, who is also Selangor menteri besar, said PKR had never discussed or arranged any plan, privately or publicly, to entrap political opponents, news outlet Harian Metro reported.

“We have many other things to do than arrange khalwat cases.

“That is not our job,” he told reporters after launching the Semarak Kasih Yayasan Selangor 2026 programme today.

He added that the party did not want personal matters to become the basis of political rivalry or debate.

Khalwat is an offence under Islamic law involving a Muslim man and woman who are not married to each other being found alone together in circumstances that may suggest improper conduct.

The allegations surfaced after the Selangor Islamic Religious Department detained two people in Petaling Jaya last Thursday to assist investigations into a suspected khalwat offence.

The department confirmed yesterday that a man and a woman had been detained at about 6pm in Petaling Jaya under Section 29 of the Syariah Criminal Offences (Selangor) Enactment 1995, but did name the people involved.

Nik Nazmi, a PKR member for almost 21 years till his exit in May, confirmed publicly earlier today that he was one of two people detained and apologised to his wife, family and his current party over what he described as a lapse in judgement.

Parti Bersama Malaysia has since announced that its 44-year-old co-founder is to be suspended three months from October 20 following the khalwat scandal.
