KOTA BHARU, Aug 21 — A suspect believed to be involved in drug trafficking was arrested after brandishing a machete at police officers and injuring one during a raid in Kampung Lubok Bongor, Jeli, yesterday.

Jeli police chief Supt Kamarulzaman Harun said the 11am incident took place when a team from the district police Criminal Investigation Division raided an unnumbered house in the village.

“The suspect acted aggressively by pulling out a machete tucked at his waist and brandishing it at the police officers while threatening to kill.

“When officers tried to apprehend him, a struggle ensued, and one officer sustained injuries to his left middle finger and left shoulder,” he said in a statement today.

Kamarulzaman said the suspect was arrested and the situation was brought under control without further injuries.

He added that police seized a machete about 36 centimetres long and a transparent plastic packet containing six reddish pills suspected to be yaba.

“The pills were found inside a black waist bag,” he said.

He said preliminary investigations revealed the suspect was wanted by the district Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division for allegedly distributing drugs.

“The suspect was also wanted in connection with an August 19 incident where he threatened to kill while brandishing a machete during a police raid.

“The case is being investigated under Section 324 and Section 353 of the Penal Code, as well as Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952,” he said.

Kamarulzaman added the suspect would be remanded under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code to assist further investigations.

He stressed that police would not tolerate any acts of threatening, attacking, or using force against public servants while they perform their duties. — Bernama
