KOTA BHARU, Aug 19 — A baby girl who tested positive for drugs after being born at Raja Perempuan Zainab II Hospital here is now in stable condition and no longer showing withdrawal symptoms.

Kelantan Health director Dr Kasuadi Hussin said the baby, who remains under observation at the hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), was showing positive signs of recovery.

“The baby remains under observation and is now able to pass stool and urine and feed,” he told a press conference here today.

On August 12, the baby girl tested positive for amphetamine and benzodiazepines after undergoing a urine test at the NICU of the hospital.

Police subsequently arrested the baby’s 30-year-old mother to assist investigations under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001 and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. — Bernama
