MELAKA, Aug 16 — Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution will take over the duties of PKR’s deputy president after incumbent Nurul Izzah Anwar announced she would “take leave”.
Prime Minister and PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced the handover at the party’s congress here this afternoon, where Nurul Izzah also gave a parting speech that called on the party to unite and galvanise its “differences” as a form of strength.
Anwar also gave full authority to PKR vice president Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari to direct the party’s election campaigns, a move he suggested would streamline preparations and strategies to avoid confusion in the chain of command.
“He (Saifuddin) has been with me for decades and I know him very well,” Anwar said in a speech as he wound up this year’s congress.
”As for Amirudin he is given full trust… no more various ways. This time it’s one system, one strategy and a unified approach. Everyone must follow,” he added.
Two days ago Nurul Izzah cautioned the party about factionalism, saying that the party cannot remain strong if it is distracted by internal disputes.
Speaking at the joint Wanita Keadilan and Angkatan Muda Keadilan congress, she said the party risked weakening itself if factionalism continued to dominate.
Nurul Izzah, Anwar’s eldest daughter, said she will remain in the party but pursue a different path in her political struggle, expressing a preference for field work with civil society groups.
“You cannot please everyone; you can only remain true to yourself,” she said when opening the 2026 Angkatan Muda Keadilan (AMK) and Wanita PKR National Congress at the Melaka International Trade Centre in Ayer Keroh on Friday.
