KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 11 — A seven-year-old Indonesian boy who fell into a river while playing with friends near Matahari Supermarket in Persiaran Subang Indah in Subang Jaya yesterday was found drowned this morning.
The Selangor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) said in a statement that the boy was found at 10.59am by personnel from the Subang Jaya Fire and Rescue Station and its Water Rescue Team (PPDA), Astro Awani reported.
“The victim’s body was found about three kilometres from the location where he was reported to have fallen into the river at 6.30pm yesterday.
“The victim’s body was brought to the Fire Control Centre at noon for identification by his parents,” it said.
The body was later handed over to police for further action and taken to Serdang Hospital, with the operation fully concluded at 12.20pm.
JBPM said it received an emergency call about the incident at 8.06pm yesterday, before personnel from the Subang Jaya station arrived at the scene at 8.16pm.
The search and rescue operation also involved PPDA personnel from the Shah Alam, Port Klang and KLIA fire and rescue stations, as well as personnel from the Puchong station.
It said the search area was extended for more than eight kilometres downstream due to the strong current, covering three sectors from the incident site towards Sri Muda and Sungai Kandis.
JBPM said rescuers also faced several challenges, including strong river currents, the risk of rain upstream that could increase the current’s speed, and several natural rapids that made it difficult for boats to manoeuvre.
