KOTA BARU, Aug 11 — PAS deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said he would leave it to his lawyers to respond to the defamation suit filed against him by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
The Kubang Kerian MP said the remarks at the centre of the suit were general in nature and had also been raised by other parties and sources, the New Straits Times reported.
“I have handed the matter over to my lawyers to take the necessary action.
“What I stated was something general, which has also been mentioned by many parties and from various sources,” he said.
Anwar filed the suit at the High Court on Monday over remarks Tuan Ibrahim allegedly made during a political speech at Felda Jenderak Utara, Kuala Krau, Pahang, on or about June 14.
Anwar’s lawyer, Datuk Sankara Nair, said the statements were false and defamatory of the Prime Minister.
He said the case also concerned the alleged publication and republication of the remarks through video recordings and social media platforms, including YouTube and Facebook, as well as Tuan Ibrahim’s Facebook account.
The suit involves claims of both slander and libel.
