PUTRAJAYA, Jan 4 — A man in his 40s was arrested yesterday in connection with a bribery scheme involving heavy vehicle inspections at the Computerised Vehicle Inspection Centre (Puspakom) in Kuala Lumpur.

The arrest followed a joint operation by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and the Road Transport Department (JPJ). The suspect was handed over by JPJ to MACC in the afternoon and was subsequently detained for questioning at the MACC Headquarters in Putrajaya.

Initial investigations suggest the suspect had been accepting bribes worth hundreds of ringgit for each vehicle inspection, in exchange for approving heavy vehicle inspections at Puspakom. The case is being investigated under Section 16(a)(A) of the MACC Act 2009.

The man was remanded at the Putrajaya Magistrate’s Court this morning for further investigation.

According to a statement, this arrest underscores the ongoing efforts by MACC and JPJ to preserve the integrity of the vehicle inspection process and combat corruption within the enforcement sector.
