KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 19 — Police will investigate allegations by Ummu Atiyah Ashaari, who claims she was raped and subjected to violence by a leader of GISB Sdn Bhd, according to The Star.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said a formal investigation will begin once a police report is lodged by Ummu Atiyah, the daughter of former Al-Arqam leader Ashaari Muhammad, also known as Abuya.
“If a report is filed, the police will track down the victim and proceed with the investigation,” Razarudin said today.
Ummu Atiyah alleges that the assault took place in 2015, after she was forced into marriage with a GISB leader.
She claimed she had refused to marry him, describing him as “old and repulsive.”
She said she fled to a friend’s house in Jordan but was later found by the GISB leader and his followers.
In a previous report, Ummu Atiyah detailed additional abuse during her time in GISB, accusing its leaders of controlling members through forced marriages and intimidation.
Police said they are prepared to take action, pending the submission of an official complaint.
