KUALA LUMPUR, July 23 — Johor police announced today that their counterpart in Selangor have found missing six-year-old Albertine Leo Jia Huin at a budget hotel in Batang Kali, Selangor today.

Johor Police Chief M. Kumar said in a press conference that she was found safe early this morning, and a male suspect aged 31 who was found at the scene has also been arrested.

“This early morning, the victim has been rescued and suspect has been arrested in Batang Kali.

“The arrest was made around 4am. The victim is safe,” he told a press conference that was live-streamed.

The police said that no motive has yet been ascertained over the alleged kidnapping, and no ransom demand was made.

Kumar said Leo has been sent to a hospital for health inspection, but had seemed fine.

Yesterday, Johor police said they reclassified the case as kidnapping under Section 365 of the Penal Code for kidnapping or abducting with the intent to secretly and wrongfully confine a person.

Kumar updated today that the case is also being investigated under Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 since Leo was found alone with the suspect without consent.

He also updated that two men and two women in their 40s have been arrested in Iskandar Puteri to assist in the investigation.

All five suspects are locals, and have no relations with the victim.

Remand orders have been applied for the first four suspects.

Kumar also praised the media for their patience over the case, but reminded the public to be more responsible after the parents received false information about the girl before today.

This comes after the mother, Leo Qieo Xin, 37, said false information and rumours have been posted on social media about her daughter’s disappearance.

Leo was reported missing during the Bon Odori Japanese festival at Eco Galleria in Iskandar Puteri, Johor Baru at around 8.30pm on Saturday.
