KUALA LUMPUR, July 17 — Residents of Tanjung Bungah in Penang are preparing for a candlelight vigil to commemorate the dogs that recently died under suspicious circumstances in their community.

According to national daily The Star, organiser Linda Ong said that the vigil, scheduled for tomorrow, aims to honour the memory of over 20 dogs that have died.

Reports indicated that 27 dogs, including stray dogs from trap-neuter-release programmes and a pet husky, were believed to have been poisoned in the Tanjung Bungah area over the past week.

Deceased birds were also found in the vicinity.

The Star reported that authorities suspect that either the grass in the area was contaminated with poison or someone had intentionally placed poisoned food in the park.

A police report has been filed regarding this incident.

The candlelight vigil is set to take place at 7pm in the parking lot of Mira Residences, located at Lintang Lembah Permai 17, Tanjung Bungah in Penang.
