GEORGE TOWN, Oct 25 — Penang PKR Wanita has slammed the irresponsible action of certain quarters who intentionally use photos of the Prime Minister’s wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail to falsely portray her as having a close relationship with Sara Netanyahu, the wife of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Its chief NurHidayah Che Rose expressed disappointment and sadness over the use of Israel’s inhumane treatment of the Palestinians in attempts to spread hatred towards the Madani government.
“Recently photos of the Bandar Tun Razak Member of Parliament, Wan Azizah, have gone viral, falsely associating her with the wife of Benjamin Netanyahu. Several photos have been manipulated by irresponsible individuals in their attempts to create the perception that Wan Azizah has a close relationship with Sara Netanyahu.
“We believe that this is one of the ways to spread hatred and cheap political elements to Malaysians who are also affected by Israel’s atrocious actions against our Palestinian brothers and sisters,” she said in a statement today.
Edited photos and videos of Dr Wan Azizah when she attended the 78th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York on September 21, believed to be taken from the Instagram account of the Israel prime minister, were uploaded to social media.
NurHidayah said Malaysia has never recognised Israel as a legitimate state, adding that Wan Azizah attended a session that brought together the spouses of leaders from every country in conjunction with the 78th UNGA.
“Who would have thought, while our Palestinian brothers and sisters and their children are being slaughtered and oppressed, there are individuals in this Islamic country who dare to politicise the situation to satisfy their extreme political vendetta,” she said.
On behalf of the Penang PKR Wanita, she called on all Malaysians to unite regardless of backgrounds and political ideologies to fight for the rights of the Palestinian people in the name of humanity.
“Let us not tarnish the dignity of our religion and nation just to win in cheap politics,” she added.
