KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 7 — The Johor government will deploy additional life-saving appliances to reduce drowning incidents for the coming monsoon season, said Housing and Local Government Committee chairman Datuk Mohd Jafni Md Shukor

Citing the Fire and Rescue Department, he said there were 276 water rescue reports recorded between 2021 and September this year, resulting in 110 deaths.

“This year, the department has placed three lifesaving appliances in different locations, Pantai Awam Desaru, Pantai Batu Layar and Gunung Ledang Waterfall.

“The number of drowning deaths is also higher compared to deaths caused by fire in the state,” he was quoted as saying by The Star after the lifesaving appliances installation ceremony at Pantai Batu Layar today.

He also said that the department has identified seven drowning hotspots across the state.

The areas include Pantai Tanjung Balau, Pantai Tanjung Sedili, Pantai Jason Bay, and Pantai Tanjung Buloh in Kota Tinggi; Tasik Tiga Beradik in Bandar Seri Alam; Pasir Gudang; Gunung Ledang in Segamat; and Pantai Air Papan in Mersing.
