PASIR PUTEH, Oct 7 — More than 3,000 schools nationwide have been gazetted as flood relief centres in preparation for the natural disaster, said Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek.
She said the Education Ministry (MoE) flood committee had also held a meeting with the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) to coordinate preparations for the centres.
“The schools that have been gazetted as flood relief centres are ready, God willing we pray that things will be simplified, most importantly we need to remind students and teachers to always take care of their safety in facing this test,” she told a press conference after opening the Agrotek Madani@KVKPM 2023 Carnival at Pasir Puteh Vocational College here today.
Also present was Education director-general Datuk Pkharuddin Ghazali.
Commenting further, Fadhlina said the MoE will also establish a flood control room to monitor the situation of the gazetted relief centres.
“We will also improve the facilities at the centres and conduct preparatory trainings.
“In terms of operations, for example asset transfer, if there is a forecast issued by MetMalaysia, we will transfer the assets immediately. We have also prepared plastic chairs and tables to make it easier and guarantee safety,” she added. — Bernama
