KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 21 — Federal Territories Umno has reportedly called on the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) today to investigate allegations of corruption involving Perikatan Nasional (PN) MP Datuk Mohd Radzi Md Jidin.

In a report by Malay daily Utusan Malaysia, its Information head Ghulam Muzaffar Ghulam Mustakim made the appeal following two viral WhatsApp text messages linking the former education minister to irregularities in the awarding of school maintenance contracts and the printing of Islamic studies books.

He said that the first message purportedly tied Radzi to awarding a contract to a prominent contractor known as “Datuk Chia”, who allegedly mishandled school maintenance projects.

“We understand that this individual is also part of a cartel and his modus operandi is to go to schools claiming to be from Centres of Responsibility, and offer allocations to schools directly from the Education Ministry or the District Education Office.

“This allegation has become a polemic and we want to make a report based on the truth and the content that was transmitted,” he was quoted as saying after lodging a report at MACC headquarters in Putrajaya.

Radzi served as a senior minister, holding the education portfolio under the Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin administration. He is also the current Putrajaya MP under PN’s Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia.

According to Ghulam Muzaffar, another viral message on the platform is said to link Radzi directly to the awarding of a contract for the printing of Islamic studies books in the J-Qaf module for preschools, to an individual with the title “Tengku”.

Ghulam Muzaffar, also the Batu Umno chief revealed that their party conducted a search through the Companies Commission of Malaysia and verified the existence of the company mentioned in the message.

“The company owner’s check also found that the name of ‘Tengku’ was also listed. We also understand that Radzi’s wife acts as a proxy for the king’s relatives with the title of Tengku.

“So, we ask that the MACC conduct further investigations into the issue and the content of the two viral messages,” he was quoted as alleging.

Malay Mail is seeking verification of the matter with the MACC, Radzi and the Ministry of Education.

The current education minister is Fadhlina Sidek from Pakatan Harapan, which is an ally of Umno in the current federal government.
