JOHOR BARU, Sept 8 — Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today urged Pulai voters to choose a parliamentary candidate who was worthy of representing them.

He urged the voters to have an open mind and refrain from listening to lies, accusations, propaganda and falsehoods.

“Saturday (tomorrow) is an important day as the unity government has a candidate to represent the people in the Pulai parliamentary constituency.

“I believe the people in Johor are matured voters,” Ahmad Zahid said in a speech after launching state level Madani Siaga programme at the Melana Indah 2 people’s housing project (PPR) here today.

He was there in his capacity as the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) chairman.

Ahmad Zahid, who is also the Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman and Umno president, said Pakatan Harapan’s Pulai parliamentary candidate, Suhaizan Kayat, has the endorsement as well as support from Pulai Umno division chief Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed.

“Both Nur Jazlan and Suhaizan can work together to overcome issues for the benefit of the constituents,” he said.

Ahmad Zahid cautioned the voters from making a wrong decision and questioned the capabilities and commitment of the other candidates.

“That is why I urge voters in Pulai to not become victims and make a choice on a candidate that they can really depend on,” he said.

The Pulai parliamentary by-election will see a three-cornered contest between Suhaizan, Perikatan Nasional’s (PN) Zulkifli Jaafar and independent candidate Samsudin Mohamad Fauzi.

Both the Pulai parliamentary and Simpang Jeram state by-elections are being held following the death of incumbent Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub, who was also the minister of domestic trade and cost of living on July 23.

The Election Commission has set the polling day for both by-elections on September 9 which is tomorrow.
