CHERAS, Sept 7 — Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain today warned yet again that stern action will be taken against those who play up the topics of race, religion, and royalty, also known collectively as ‘3R’ issues.

He said this was to maintain the country’s harmony and to defend the sanctity of the royal institution.

“We will take stern action when it comes to ‘3R’ issues, especially the royal institution. We will not take any chances. We do not want our monarchy to be insulted or denigrated. This is PDRM’s approach for now.

“We will also act against any religious and race issues that threatens the spirit of camaraderie in our multi-racial Malaysia,” he told reporters after delivering his closing speech at the 4th National Forensics Science Symposium for Law Enforcement here.

Razarudin then cited the case of a Facebook account “Iman Mustaqim” that had allegedly insulted the Sultan of Selangor as an example of a police investigation into individuals who touch on divisive issues.

He stressed that the police are not government puppets when an arrest involving 3R issues is made.

“It is untrue for anyone to say that the police are being told to carry out an arrest over this matter. We are never forced to do it.

“However, any government of the day will remind the public to not broach these topics. In the past, Kota Baru MP Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan told everyone to not play up these issues,” he said, referring the former law minister during the previous Perikatan Nasional administration.
